Mommy is a drama film mainly about the stories among the son, his mom and the neighbor. The single mother's son has mental illness which is serious enough to be quarantined in hospital. In order not to lose his son, the single mom tried her best to keep her son around, and the kind female neighbor also came to help the family. However, at the ending, all the efforts did not earn a good ending for the mom and the son. The son was still caught forced physically restrained.

One particular characteristic about this film is that it was made in 1:1 aspect ratio. This is actually different from many other films. I think the purpose of doing this intentionally is that the director was trying to emphasize the relationships among the three people. In this way, audiences can have a better and stronger feeling about the change of relationships, like at the beginning the son had conflicts with his mom and the neighbor, and with the development of plot their relationships became better. One scene in this film is the selfie of the son, his mom and the neighbor. The three people were hardly to squeeze in the mobile phone camera. I think this might be an indication that such relationship cannot keep long, and this could be a hint of the ending that the relationships tear apart.

The imaginary future about the son and his mom in the latter half plot is also extraordinary. It is the visualization of the son's dream, and the mom's dream as well. It is matched with warm music and color. Suddenly the plot is back to the reality that the son is forced to quarantine. Such huge contrast serves the function of empathy to audiences significantly. Audiences can be impressed by this tragic story easily.
