Yesterday, I attended the last screening event held by Film and Media Studies department this semester. The screening film is "Black Book". Actually, I remembered that I might have seen this film before, while I forgot much of its plot. Therefore, I really expected to see this film again. There were many audiences here as usual. Everyone seemed really excited to watch this film.
"Black Book" described the legendary experience of a Dutch-Jewish singer. It contains much content in its plot so that I can divide the film into three parts. The first part is about singer's tragic experience. When she just escaped with her family, they soon encountered another group of Nazi soldiers. Her whole family was killed and only she survived in the massacre. Therefore, the singer decided to revenge the leader of the soldiers who killed her family. The second part tells the story how she revenge. The singer joined a rebel group. In order to get more information, she tried to approach a German military officer. It seemed that all of the plans were going very well, while she had already been betrayed by one of her comrades in the rebel group. During a rescue mission, nearly the whole rebel group was eliminated and the singer was framed to be the traitor. Therefore, the third part is about how she found the real traitor in the group. She got the black book which contains the evidences, and then she killed the traitor with her only survived comrade. At the end, it is a happy ending that the singer formed a family and had a happy life.
This is a very wonderful film. Its plot is very intense and substantial that I felt like I had read a long novel. There is a turning point in about every ten minutes so that there is no chance for the audiences to distract. I think every audience was fascinated by the suspenseful and exciting plot. I really appreciated that this film has a happy ending or it could make me feel upset. Overall, this film is fantastic and the screening experience was enjoyable.
This is my last time to attend the film screening event in Emory University. I really appreciated that Film and Media Studies department held these screening events for us so that we can see these great films in this semester. I hope such event could keep going in next semester to offer screening opportunities for more students.
