In this semester, I made my first website with the help of WIX. Actually, before the recognition of WIX, I had never thought that I could utilize a certain tool to establish the website without programming. Although it is not as perfect as those made from programming, it is enough for me to display my all works. For the last update, in fact I did not make any significant change to my website. I think I did almost everything at last time. I am now very satisfied with the design and structure of my website. At the beginning, I was trying to add as much fancy decoration as I could to my pages. However, shortly I found out that this would inevitably make my website look messy. I think the essential part of my website should always be my content so that this is what I truly need to address. Putting too much colorful decorations would distract visitors from focusing on my works. Also, the disordered combination of colors as background could affect visitors' experiences of reading. If the colors of font and background are too similar, it will be hard for readers to have a clear recognition of words. This will somehow hurt visitors' eyes as well. Therefore, concerning about visitors' experiences and in order to keep them stay in my website longer, I just use the most common black font and white background.
My website looks very tidy but not simple. It consists of all the necessary parts, including essays part, personal information and contact information. Even though there is not a menu for my essays, "tags" can make it easier for visitors to locate my work. Every design in my website was deliberately thought by me for the sake of conveying visitors the best feeling as they enter. One lesson I learnt from working on my website is that the visitors' experiences should always be at the primary place. Although sometimes original design seems really cool and it presents a strong personality, it might not be favored by everyone. As a producer of something in digital technology, such as a gadget, we should always think from customers' perspectives. This is the key to make our products popular and long-lived. Admittedly, my website is not perfect. There are still some functions, which I do not understand for now, of WIX for me to explore. Also, it could be better to have some visitors' reflections for me to help improve my website.
